When pressing these buttons, the game determines what action should be executed based on the situation at the time. For example, if the player press the "feet" button when running up to a short wall, Altaïr will jump on top or over the wall If instead the player presses the free hand button, Altaïr will vault over the wall.
The right trigger/R1/right mouse button acts as a modifier. When held down, it puts the player in high-profile mode, or if the player is in combat, defensive mode.
edit Low and High Profile modes
When the Modifier button is not held down, Altaïr is in Low Profile mode. In Low Profile mode, actions are restricted to socially acceptable ones: walking, gently pushing others aside, blending, stealth assassinations with the Hidden Blade, and so on.
If the player holds down the modifier, however, Altaïr enters high-profile mode. In high-profile mode, Altaïr may perform less socially acceptable moves, including free run, wall climbing, violent assassinations, attacking with Throwing Knives, and so on.
edit Contextual Controls
